About
I'm an evolutionary biologist and paleontologist from Argentina at the University of Buenos Aires and CONICET, working on the morphology, paleobiology and evolution of the skeleton of small vertebrates, such as frogs, snakes, and birds. In my research, I combine the comparative anatomical study of fossils and living forms (I love bones!) with quantitative approaches, including cladistics, geometric morphometrics, and phylogenetic comparative methods in the R environment.
Once in a while, I hit the road to do some paleontological fieldwork with my colleague and friend Guillermo Rougier (along with Willy Turazzini, Leandro Canessa, and other great people). These fieldtrips are in search of mammals and other small vertebrates that thrived across Patagonia in the shadow of dinosaurs.
Since 2004 I have also been teaching Paleontology and anatomy and diversity of Vertebrates at the Facultad de Ciencias Exactas y Naturales of the University of Buenos Aires. As senior teaching assistant, since 2009 I designed several new lab activities, including adapting the entire Vertebrate labs to a completely virtual environment during the 2020-2021 pandemic. Some of the virtual content used in this course can be found here and in my sketchfab page.
In my facet as an illustrator, I combine science and art whenever I can, illustrating my own work or using my drawings as an outreach tool. Some SciArt examples are available here, but much more drawings and illustrations are on my instagram. I also like nature photography, yet I'm not good at it, and birdwatching.
